HPR’s All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence sat down recently with Hawaii-born playwright/director Lorenzo DeStefano about “Shipment Day”, world premiering Nov. 8, 2018 at Manoa Valley Theatre in Honolulu, including a dramatic reading from the play by Maui-born actor Ku’ulei Shafee in the role of Hansen’s disease activist & author Olivia Robello.
Lorenzo begins by describing the sense of fear that surrounded a diagnosis of leprosy in 1934 Honolulu—and not only for the patient.
